Jennifer recently asked:

What concrete colors fade less than others?

-What color should I use for my stamped concrete?

When our clients are unsure what colors they would look best with their home, we typically recommend earth-tone tan or grey with multiple shadings for a more natural look that is both classic and seems to last beyond trends.   But from a maintenance standpoint, some people want to know, what concrete colors will fade faster than others.

-Is there a process to up-keeping/maintaining the concrete edging?

-Once you pour the concrete, how long do you have to let it set before you seal it?

These are great questions.  So good that we’ve made this video blog of it:

Most integral pigments (color added into the concrete when mixing) are based on synthetic and natural iron oxides which are color stable.  This means that the base (integral) color that is mixed into the concrete should not fade.  That being said, colors such as red and orange will tend to look much more ‘washed out’ with nature’s elements on the surface.

Imagine you just bought a new shiny car and then parked it under a tree in your front yard for a few months.   The natural elements will make the paint look worn.   Cleaning it will really make the car look a lot better.

We have a 5-year warranty on the edging when you sign up for our color activation program.  This program involves cleaning the surface to keep the concrete looking fresh.  It adds warranties on coloration and movement to the system installation. Mainly, the concrete should be cleaned and sealed every 2-5 years depending on surrounding elements.

We typically use a curing and sealing combo.  You can read more about concrete color choices on our blog, or contact us for more info.

  1. By installing stone or concrete curbing instead, you’ll be able to create a seamless appearance that’s much more aesthetically pleasing than your other options. This streamlined and low-maintenance landscaping can catch buyers’ eyes, enticing them to come in for a closer look, even if some of your property’s features might otherwise have been disqualifying factors.
